The Center’s Supporters
The mission of the of Excellence in Elder Abuse and Neglect is to promote aging with joy and to eliminate aging in fear. We strive everyday to achieve this goal through direct service to clients and the professionals who serve them. We also conduct training, research and public policy to bring issues related to abuse of elders and adults with disabilities to physicians, nurses, social workers, police, judges, policy makers and others. At our Center we strongly believe that we make a lasting and positive difference in the lives of elder abuse victims.
The Center relies exclusively on grant funding and individual donations. Donations of any size are welcome and appreciated.

The domains of activity coordinated by the Center of Excellence on Elder Abuse and Neglect are:
Local Projects/Direct Services (supported by the Archstone Foundation and local agencies): The Center of Excellence provides medical assessments, forensic evaluations, interdisciplinary care planning, linkages with existing resources, and family assistance in cases of elder abuse and neglect in Orange County.
Technical Assistance (supported by the Archstone Foundation): The Center of Excellence provides statewide technical assistance to elder abuse programs in California. Two types of technical assistance are offered: case consultation and program development/replication assistance.
Policy and Advocacy (supported by the Archstone Foundation and the Kaiser Foundation): To make a sustainable improvement in the field of elder abuse, it is crucial to connect practice and policy. Education will be provided when requested or needed by those who are in a position to make or implement policy decisions.
Research (funding from various sources—see Research page): The Center of Excellence will provide a valuable, and much-needed, bridge between direct service and academics. The Center of Excellence will stimulate new ideas, identify needed areas of inquiry, bring together researchers from across California, and serve as a mechanism for feeding research findings back to the field.
Education (supported by the SCAN Foundation and UniHealth Foundation): Training professionals in the field of elder mistreatment is a critical component to improving the quality and coordination of services. While the geographic target area for this training institute is Southern California (especially Los Angeles and Orange Counties), the Center of Excellence will guide the Training Institute in identifying California’s most pressing training needs in elder mistreatment.

The Elder Abuse Training Institute is supported by a grant from UniHealth Foundation, a non-profit philanthropic organization whose mission is to support and facilitate activities that significantly improve the health and well being of individuals and communities within its service area.
